GARAGE CLEANOUT
Here’s a simple test. Can you park your car in your garage tonight? If the answer is “not since we moved in,” you’re in good company. Around Worcester County, the garage is where the lawn chairs, the broken snow blower, the box of mystery cords and the bike with two flat tires all end up.
Then January shows up. You’re scraping ice off the windshield at 6 AM while the garage sits ten feet away, full of stuff you don’t use. A garage cleanout puts the car back where it belongs.
Nandy’s Junk Removal is a woman-owned, local company based in Paxton. We clear garages of every size, from a one-car detached garage in Worcester to a three-bay in Holden.
We don’t take hazardous materials, so leave out paint, motor oil, gas cans, propane and chemicals. Some oversized items are off the list too. Not sure? Text us a photo.
HOW IT WORKS
Call or text (774) 420-6434, or send a photo through the quote form at nandysjunkremoval.com.
We reply with an upfront price and a time that works for you.
Our uniformed, insured crew arrives on time.
You point. We lift, load and haul.
We sort metal for recycling and set aside usable items for donation.
We sweep the floor, and you pay when the job is done by card, cash or digital payment.
A small garage can be a quick stop. A garage with twenty years of buildup takes longer. Either way, we tell you what to expect when we quote.
A garage full of junk isn’t just bulky. A lot of it is stuff Massachusetts won’t let you throw away. The state bans scrap metal (ferrous and non-ferrous), large appliances, old tube TVs and computer monitors, drywall, asphalt, brick and concrete from disposal. Mattresses and textiles joined that list on November 1, 2022. Disposal sites in the state are required to check loads for banned items, and they can send a failed load notice and charge a handling fee when banned materials show up.
That’s a lot of sorting for a Saturday. When we do a garage cleanout, the sorting is part of the job. Metal goes to recycling. Appliances get handled the right way. Usable items go toward donation. The rest goes to proper disposal.
LOCAL KNOW-HOW
Every town around here handles big items differently. Here’s what we found when we checked.
Shrewsbury residents on the town’s pay-as-you-throw program need a $15 bulky waste sticker for each large item, then call Casella to book a curbside pickup. The sticker program doesn’t cover electronics or appliances, and mattresses can’t go out with a bulk sticker since they must be recycled. The town lists curbside mattress pickup through private haulers at about $75 per item. For a garage with 20 or 30 items, that adds up fast and takes weeks of scheduling.

Auburn’s regular trash service doesn’t include bulky items. The town’s special item pickup runs $80 per item, and each item has to weigh 50 pounds or less, be no longer than 48 inches, and be light enough for one person to lift. Items with Freon aren’t allowed. Auburn residents can also use the Leicester Recycling Center for some hard-to-recycle items.
Town page: Auburn
The Leicester Recycling Center at 233 Mannville Street is open on the first, third and fifth Saturdays of the month, from 8 AM to 1 PM, with a sticker. It takes large metal items like washers, stoves and dryers, and charges a fee for Freon items like refrigerators and air conditioners. That’s two, sometimes three, Saturday mornings a month.

Worcester residents can book a bulk drop-off at the Residential Drop-Off Center at 1065 Millbury Street. It’s open by appointment, usually April through November, and most items cost $5 each. You still have to load, drive and unload it yourself, and the center closes for the winter.

These towns share the Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center on Raymond Huntington Highway in West Boylston, run by the nonprofit Wachusett Earthday. It’s a good place for reuse and recycling, with seasonal public hours and fees for bulky items.
The Spencer Transfer Station at 17 South Spencer Road is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 AM to 5 PM for residents with a sticker or day pass, with extra fees for some items.
The short version: if you have a truck, a free Saturday and a strong back, you can do it in stages. If you’d rather have the garage cleared in one visit, call us.

We work in Paxton, Worcester, Holden, Rutland, Princeton, Leicester, Spencer, West Boylston, Sterling, Shrewsbury and Auburn.
In Paxton and Holden, we often clear garages that also act as the workshop and the snow-gear room. In Rutland and Princeton, garages and barns tend to hold old equipment from bigger yards. In Worcester, detached garages behind three-deckers and older homes fill up with stuff from more than one family. Shrewsbury and Auburn calls are often about clearing space before a sale or after a move. West Boylston, Sterling, Leicester and Spencer round out the list, all within easy reach of our Paxton base.
Leo M. from Worcester said we did a great job clearing a big junk pile and that he’ll call us again. A garage full of junk is just a big pile with a roof over it.
