ATTIC CLEANOUT
Attics are where good intentions go to sit. The wedding dress. The baby clothes “for the next one.” Three Christmas trees, two of them broken. A box labeled “important” that nobody has opened since 1994.
The trouble is getting it down. Pull-down stairs are steep. Knee walls are low. In July, the attic of a Central Mass cape can feel like an oven by 10 AM. Most people would rather leave it up there forever than make thirty trips down a ladder.
That’s where we come in. Nandy’s Junk Removal is a woman-owned, local crew from Paxton. We do the climbing, the carrying and the hauling, and you get your attic back as usable storage space.
Family heirlooms get special care. Before we start, tell us what matters. If we find photo albums, letters or keepsakes in a box marked for removal, we set them aside and ask you first.
Our service list includes clearing old insulation and debris from attic storage areas. One caution: some older homes have loose vermiculite insulation, which can contain asbestos. That is a job for a licensed abatement contractor, not a junk removal crew. If we see anything that looks like it, we will stop and tell you, so you can get it tested before anyone disturbs it.
HOW IT WORKS
Call, text or send photos of the attic through nandysjunkremoval.com.
We reply with an upfront price and a time. No hidden fees.
Our uniformed, insured crew arrives on time and plans a clear path from the attic to the truck.
We bring everything down carefully and load it straight onto the truck.
Clothes and usable items go toward donation, metal and electronics to recycling, and the rest to proper disposal.
We sweep the attic floor, and you pay on completion by card, cash or digital payment.
This surprises a lot of people. Since November 1, 2022, Massachusetts has banned textiles from the trash. That covers clothing, footwear, bedding, towels, curtains and fabric, even if it’s worn or stained. The goal is reuse and recycling, and it’s working. MassDEP estimates that 18 textile recovery organizations collected about 50,869 tons of textiles across the state in 2024.
Old mattresses are under the same ban. Old tube TVs and computer monitors have been banned from disposal for years.
For an attic full of clothes and linens, that means bags have to be sorted and dropped at the right place. We handle that for you. When we clean out an attic, textiles in usable shape go toward donation instead of a landfill.
Massachusetts has some of the oldest housing in the country. A 2023 study reported by the Worcester Business Journal put the state third among all states for oldest housing stock, with a median home age of 58 years. In Worcester, census survey data puts the median year a home was built at 1951, and around 40 percent of homes were built in 1939 or earlier.
Older homes were built with real attics, the walk-up kind, with room for a lot of stuff. More years in the same house means more boxes up there.
LOCAL KNOW-HOW
Worcester’s triple-deckers often have a top-floor attic or storage space that more than one family has used over the years. That’s common in older neighborhoods like Vernon Hill, Grafton Hill and Main South. The bigger single-family homes on the west side, near Tatnuck and Newton Square, often have full walk-up attics. Worcester residents can drop off bulk items at the Millbury Street center by appointment, but it typically runs only April through November, and you still have to get everything down the stairs first.

Paxton, our home base, and its neighbors Holden, Princeton and Rutland are full of capes, colonials and old farmhouses with attics that have held family things for generations. Princeton alone has several historic districts. These four towns share the Wachusett Watershed Regional Recycling Center in West Boylston with Sterling, West Boylston and Boylston. It’s a useful reuse spot with seasonal hours, but it doesn’t carry anything down a ladder for you.
Leicester and Spencer both have older homes from their mill-town days, in places like Cherry Valley and along Spencer’s Main Street. The Spencer Transfer Station on South Spencer Road is open Wednesdays and Saturdays with a resident sticker or day pass. The Leicester Recycling Center on Mannville Street opens the first, third and fifth Saturdays of the month. Both are useful. Neither helps with the stairs.
In Shrewsbury and Auburn, we often clear attics before a home goes on the market, when buyers will be poking their heads up through the hatch. In West Boylston and Sterling, attic cleanouts often go hand in hand with clearing the basement or garage, so we can do the whole house in one visit.
